#304 in my photo-a-day project.
The first ladybird of 2009 - spotted on some ivy on a fence in the garden. Must have been brought out by a bit of sunshine.

Yes, I have a cold. Plus a cough that seems almost constant and won't let me sleep. |

The light wasn't great but I had a go at some bird photography at Chambers Farm Wood, Lincs. Plenty of birds coming to the feeders - including this coal tit (Parus ater).

Common Darter from the summer. I'm hoping for better weather and many more insects in 2009. |

A shop window display. Possibly not one I'd expect to see in a sleepy market town! Thought I'd photograph it while I waited for a Chinese takeaway. |
| Soldier fly nutmeg66 posted a photo:

One of my Christmas presents was a copy of British Soldier Flies and their Allies by Stubbs & Drake. No excuse now for not having a go at IDing them. I think this is a female Stratiomys potamida.
I rarely get the chance to photograph them, but they're wonderful looking flies. More views of this obliging one below.

I was given a string of glowing dragonflies to put on the Christmas tree - I think they look great!
Perfect gift, or what! |

Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas (or whatever) and a great 2009.
Roll on the warmer weather and all the insects it brings :-) |
| Juniper shield bug (Cyphostethus tristriatus) nutmeg66 posted a photo:

I've been in Coventry visiting my parents for the weekend. Dad brought a conifer into the house to decorate as a Christmas tree - and a couple of juniper shield bugs came in with it :-) I haven't seen these in my garden, so a new photographic record from the weekend.
Handheld, natural light.
(NB. My photos-of-the-day were of family members so I've not made them visible for public viewing) |
| Any Questions? nutmeg66 posted a photo:

#290 in my photo-a-day project.
BBC Radio 4's Any Questions? came to Horncastle this evening.
The panel, chaired by Jonathan Dimbleby, was Sir Gulam Noon, Dame Joan Bakewell, Shami Chakrabarti and Peter Oborne.
I enjoyed watching the broadcast, even though a couple of the questions were a bit tame. |

These pen portraits of the panel are just about readable at large size... if you could be bothered :-) |
