| Prattville Mill & Dam #2. BamaWester posted a photo:

Okay....here it is with the original sky. The obvious difference here being the cooler color temperature and the completely underexposed mill building. It's also a little tighter composition, but I like the completely different feel this shot has from the other one. Lastly, you can see the clutter I removed from the other shot in the silhouettes here.
What do you think? |

As I was driving the Columbus, GA to my brother's house on Thursday, I had to pass by Prattville, just north of Montgomery, AL. I remembered an awesome shot that our buddy Justin (Wolfman) took there.
I drove around Prattville until I found this place...in the historical downtown area.
Let me just be honest from the beginning....I added the sky and in clipping out the old one, I eliminated a lot of the clutter around the building and on the bridge on the right. I don't love the way it turned out, so I may rework this and post another version.
BTW, I took this with my Sigma 10-20mm lens....wide open. |

| Recycling! BamaWester posted a photo:

I went to the Sugar Bowl this weekend in New Orleans. First, I drove to my brother's house in Georgia on Thursday. On Friday, we drove to N.O. and watched the Sugar Bowl. The game sucked as Bama got their butts handed to them.
In addition to that, we were tired after the game, so we just went back to the hotel room and crashed. No fun, no pictures....no WIN! On Saturday, we had some breakfast and then we drove back to Georgia.
The only saving grace for this whole trip is that I did manage to get some shots in a couple of places I don't go very often. This shot was taken at the Recycling Center in Auburn, Alabama. There were HUGE piles of wine bottles, beer bottles, beer cans, etc. As soon as I saw this, I thought, "Geeze, these people drink a lot."
It was nice to see so many people (or a few VERY serious drinkers) recycling so much. This was a great facility that made it easy for people to drop off their recyclable materials. |
| Junior. BamaWester posted a photo:

This is Junior, one of my brother's dogs. Junior is a sweet, loving dog....who also happens to be a blithering idiot and a coward. The other two dogs....Lucky and Princess....both females....rule Junior's world with an iron fist....er, paw.
Still.....how can you not love a face like that. :-) |
| Worn Down. BamaWester posted a photo:

I love the rock at the bottom of the falls. It's been worn down over the years and has little channels like small canyons carved through it's top. In some ways, it's a microcosm of the Sipsey itself.
This is the first waterfall you come to from the upper parking lot at the Sipsey Recreation area. It's about 200-300 yards on the right. |
| In the Wilderness. BamaWester posted a photo:

This is the second waterfall you come to from the lower parking area at the Sipsey Recreation Area. It's about 50-60 feet tall and creates a beautiful silk veil.
I shot this, of course, with my Sigma 10-20mm from deep underneath the shelf beside the falls. |
| Christmas in Twickenham. BamaWester posted a photo:

Okay....I know it's a little late to be posting Christmas shots, but I didn't take any until Friday night.
Rob (Land^shark) and Jaime (JaimeBD) called and wanted to go shooting, so I joined them for a tour of Huntsville's historic Twickenham District. |
| Full Flow in the Sipsey. BamaWester posted a photo:

This doesn't look like much, but this is really a lot of water for this waterfall.
This is the first waterfall you come to from the lower parking lot at the Sipsey Recreation Area. This is also directly above the place in the last shot I posted. |
| Wide Angle in the Sipsey. BamaWester posted a photo:

Man I love the Sigma 10-20. I've shot this place about a half dozen times and didn't think I could get any new perspectives out of it.
Well, shooting wide open at 10mm gives you an entirely new perpsective on the same scene. |
| Small Falls in the Wilderness. BamaWester posted a photo:

I decided to head over to the Sipsey Wilderness today to make sure I didn't miss some of my favorite waterfalls with....you know....actual water in them.
This is a small waterfall above another larger falls. Neither of them have a name, as far as I know....but it sure is a beautiful place. |

Another awesome moment at DeSoto. |

Another shot from Valhermosa Springs taken on "The Tour" this weekend. |
| Nocalula & A Rainbow. BamaWester posted a photo:

The sun was bright and directly overhead when I shot this, so I used my CPL and ND4 filters, a tiny aperature and a 1/4 second exposure. I was surprised it wasn't more blown out. |
| Bamawester Falls. BamaWester posted a photo:

That's right.....my very own waterfall ......AND none of you can have it. ;-)
I used my new Sigma 10-20 mm lens for this one. I love the way it makes the same scene look so different. I also fired my on-camera flash to get a little more detail in the rock overhang. In doing so, you can see little drops of water that were frozen in air at the bottom of the shot. |
| Me at DeSoto Falls. BamaWester posted a photo:

I don't like to post self-portraits. I mean, why would I? If I were a hot girl....I'd be all over that, but I'm obviously not. :-)
Anyway, it was COLD at DeSoto today, but the water was raging and that's always a good time to be there. |

| Valhermosa Springs. BamaWester posted a photo:

I had a major whirlwind tour of creeks and waterfalls today. When I got up, the sky was perfectly clear, so I decided to go to my "secret" waterfall just north of Cullman....in the backwoods.
On my way there, I was traveling on Hwy 36 and crossed the bridge over Valhermosa Springs. I remember stopping here 2 years ago with FedoraDave. There wasn't any water in the creek at the time, but we said we would return. Today was that day. Okay, in all fairness to Dave....today was the day I returned. :-)
I'm glad I stopped because this place, as you can see, was beautiful.
After I left here, I went to "Bamawester Falls," the only one I feel I can name after myself because other than FedoraDave who was with me when I found it and my buddy Brian, no one on Flickr I've come across has been there. I've shot it a few times before and shots will follow.
Then I decided to make a day of it and went to Gadsden to Nocalula Falls. It was RAGING....and AWESOME! After getting some shots, I then decided to go see Little River Falls and DeSoto Falls. After seeing some great shots of them both from other NAPG members, I wanted to see them also RAGING!
For someone who likes to shoot waterfalls....it was a good day. :-) |
